We are excited to have International Students back at Bribie Island SHS in 2023!

One of the memorable aspects of study abroad is time spent with local Australian homestay families.  Our international team has a group of committed homestay families who enjoy the cultural exchange that hosting international students has to offer.

Homestay families from our small, island community provide safe and caring accommodation in a warm, home environment.  Visiting students develop lasting friendships with their Australian homestay families.

Homestay families are carefully selected by our international team and support is given to both student and homestay families should any concerns arise.  Homestay families are often the best opportunity to practice English, as well as learn about the Australian way of life.

Homestay experience:

  • “It’s wonderful that we can share our Australian culture with international students.  We enjoy watching them embrace the way of life here and their eagerness of wanting all the experiences they can fit into their time with us. It’s very sad when they leave, but we keep in touch with them once they are back home.  We highly recommend becoming a host family.” – Monique (Homestay Parent)

  • “We’ve greatly enjoyed hosting students through the years, and always enjoy many years later, when we visit them or they come back and visit us.  We’ve made a lifetime of friendships.” – Lynn (Homestay Parent)

Becoming a Homestay Family

Hosting an international student is a wonderful experience. Host families provide the opportunity for visiting students to practice their English conversational skills and learn about Australian culture in a secure and caring home environment. International students develop lasting friendships with their host families.

We have 2 types of students available to host:

  • ISP (long term students) -  these programs run from 1 term to 1 year;
  • Study tours students - these tours run from 3 nights to 3 weeks.

If you believe you and your family would be suited to the ISP program please contact the Bribie Island State High School International Coordinator to express your interest at International@bribieislandshs.eq.edu.au or visit EQI’s website for more information.  Once we have received your expression of interest, our International Coordinator will contact you to organise a home visit.
